In January 2023, Thomond Park hosted the launch of Carelon in Ireland with an immersive show combining projection, light, and live music. Ireland’s first digital pitch projection told the story of Carelon’s journey and Irish innovation through large-scale mapped visuals, performed for a live audience.
A 1200-square-metre temporary projection surface was laid directly on the pitch, illuminated by 120,000 lumens of laser projection. The content was designed using 3D mapping, taking into account the audience’s specific perspective and the projection angles required. The stadium’s floodlights were integrated into the design using timecoded DMX, with additional aqua beam fixtures used to build atmosphere. Ten live drummers performed at the apex of the projection, joined by a harpist and fiddle player positioned in the opposite stand.
Rigging was not possible from the stadium roof, so a custom platform was built at the rear of the stand to achieve the required projector height and angle. Despite the complexity, the result felt like a stadium-scale performance — an ambitious and rewarding moment for the team.
